07.08.08 New AASM Accreditations Recognize Leading Sleep Centers The American Academy of Sleep Medicine recently granted accreditation to four LifeLine sleep centers, making the region’s leading network of sleep facilities now the most recognized. Since 1975, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) has been identifying sleep medicine providers who offer the highest quality of medical care for people with sleep problems. The AASM accreditation process is rigorous, positioning its accredited members as trusted providers of sleep-related medical care.
Four of LifeLine’s 15 facilities were recently awarded accreditation, its Western Pennsylvania sleep centers in Brentwood, Bridgeville, Forest Hills and Warrendale. With the accreditation of these four facilities, LifeLine now operates the region’s most accredited network of sleep centers. LifeLine operates the only accredited independent labs in the region, joining a couple of hospital labs accredited by AASM.
“Today, more than 40 million Americans have some kind of sleep disorder,” said Dann Scheiferstein, President, LifeLine Centers “and most don’t even know it. Our goal is make sleep studies accessible to people so they can get the care and treatment they need, whether in our accredited centers or in patients’ homes. We are pleased to be recognized by the AASM for our work and to help more Pennsylvanians sleep well.”
Based outside Pittsburgh in Forest Hills, LifeLine has been quietly expanding and now operates or manages 15 community sleep locations in the region, including five in partnership with Excela Health System, three with private physician groups and their most recent independent sleep center in Beaver Valley. For the staff at LifeLine, access to sleep studies – and then treatment – has fueled their growth since the company’s inception in 2004. The organization helped more than 4,000 patients in 2007 and is on track to boost that number in 2008.
The LifeLine team is pioneering the access to sleep studies and treatment of sleep disorders in Western Pennsylvania, offering the region’s leading private sleep lab accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, as well as facilities staffed with certified sleep technicians and a Medical Director who’s board-certified in sleep medicine.
